The Best-Laid Plans
Appoint a leader
There are simply too many variables involved to leave things up to each individual. Find your group's natural planner and put her in charge of the details.
Keep the Group Together
As soon as you choose your cruise, the leader can book cabins in the same part of the ship. If your ship has dinners with assigned seating, now's the time for the leader to request a group table.
Be Clear About Finances
The leader should collect money for expenses and activities. Cruise fares are just a portion of the total cost. Usually not included: shore outings, plane tickets, and a pre-cruise hotel, plus onboard extras such as spas, specialty dinners, and gratuities.
Agree on the Pace
Is this going to be an intensive bonding trip or a more relaxed free-for-all? The leader can schedule activities accordingly, whether that means an hour-by-hour itinerary or evening happy hours.
Consider onshore Options
Once the leader has a grasp on what everyone wants, she can book shore excursions or research shopping and dining options in each port.
Prepare to Share
Cabins are cramped, so pack light and agree ahead of time to share space wasters like hairdryers and toiletries. Hang as many clothes as you can—drawer space is limited.
