Shake Up the Party

A tasty cocktail always makes a get-together better. Margo Tyler of Jar restaurant in L.A. passed along this recipe for Blancotinis.

¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons water
2 Oroblanco grapefruits, halved
4 ounces vodka

1. Chill two cocktail glasses in the freezer. Combine 2 tablespoons of sugar and the water in a saucepan and heat on medium high, stirring until the sugar melts. Set the syrup aside to cool. Pour the remaining quarter cup of sugar onto a small plate.

2. Divide one of the grapefruit halves into slices and cut a slit in each slice. Juice the remaining halves into a bowl.

3. Dip the rims of the chilled glasses in the sugar. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in the juice, vodka, and 1 tablespoon of the syrup. Cover and shake well. Divide the drink between the two glasses and then garnish each cocktail with a grapefruit slice.
